 Civil Section

The Civil Section is responsible for processing, serving, and enforcing court orders and a variety of other documents issued by the courts. Examples of civil papers include but are not limited to; small claims, notices, evictions, civil subpoenas, numerous types of writs, restraining orders, foreclosure of real or personal property as ordered by the courts or The Department of Justice. The Civil Section also processes and serves criminal subpoenas for the District Attorney, and the Juvenile Department.

Hours:  Monday- Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Closed for lunch daily 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Closed all Federal Holidays

Requirements for Civil Process

 

In order for the Sheriff’s Office to process and serve papers, we need the following:

A letter of Instruction.

Please follow this link for the Sheriff Instructions form. Unless allowed by statute, we do not accept papers with a post office box as the service address for a defendant.

Appropriate fee.

Please follow this link for Civil Fee information. Packets received with inaccurate fee calculation will be returned without process. If you are sending documents in the mail, please include a check, money order, or cashier's check made payable to Coos County Sheriff’s Office. On your envelope please note Attn: Civil

Pursuant to Oregon Law, the Civil Section is not permitted to give legal advice. “Legal advice” means telling a person how to go about court proceedings, filings, etc., speculating what the outcome in a court case would be, advising or recommending one procedure, form or pleading over another, advising what words to put in a form or what to say in court, suggesting what you “should do”, recommending the services of a specific attorney or group of attorneys, etc
