May 21, 2024 Primary Election

Welcome to the May 21, 2024 Primary Election cycle.

No voter in Oregon will receive all of the candidates on their ballot. Primary Elections in Oregon are set up, in part, for major political parties to nominate who they would like to appear on the General Election ballot, where candidates such as President, are actually elected. If a voter would like to participate in a major political party’s nominations, they must be registered with that political party not later than 21 days before the date of the Election, April 30, 2024. This is also the deadline for new voter registrations in order to be eligible to participate in the May Primary Election. Those registered with a minor political party, as well as those not affiliated with a party, will only receive nonpartisan races.

Ballots will be mailed to all active, registered Coos County voters on May 2, 2024. If a voter does not receive their ballot by Thursday, May 9th, please contact the Elections Office by phone at (541) 396-7610 or by email at elections@co.coos.or.us. Voters can go online, at any time, beginning approximately 45 days before the Election, to check on the status of their ballot at www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote.

Coos County does not produce a voter’s pamphlet, but the Oregon Secretary of State does for Primary and General Elections. Each household can expect to receive one voter’s pamphlet, regardless of voter registration. The voters pamphlet provided by the Oregon Secretary of State can also be viewed on their website at www.oregonvotes.gov. It is up to the discretion of the candidate, whether or not they want, to submit a statement in the Oregon voter’s pamphlet, at the candidates’ expense.
