ANIMAL SHELTER OPERATOR - Coos County Animal Shelter

We are seeking applicants to interview for the Animal Shelter Operator position at the Coos County Animal Shelter located at 92960 South Port Road, off Hwy 101.  Selected candidate will be hired through Cardinal Temp Services and paid hourly at $21.00.  At this time, the Sheriff's Office will fill this position as a Temp Employee; however, the position may become a Coos County opening in the future and the person selected for this position would be eligible to apply at that time.  A decision was made to hire as a temp for the foreseeable future.  The Animal Shelter operates on a small budget, and the Sheriff is working on a Dept. budget for the next fiscal year, and possible restructuring of positions and duties, if necessary.

While hired as a temp, the candidate will not be required to euthanize animals or undergo training for this.   

Days and hours of work are Tuesday through Saturday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Ideal candidate will be someone comfortable working with large and small dogs, cats and possibly other domesticated and livestock animals.  This busy position will be required to move dogs between kennels daily, able to clean cages and pens, feed and care for the animals, provide customer service with the public, answer phones and return voicemails, operate a cash register, perform basic record keeping, and work with shelter volunteers.  Candidate may also be asked to update social media posts, and operate a washing machine/dryer.  This position can be physically demanding at times.  Dogs penned up all night have a lot of energy in the morning!  Also, dog food bags can be heavy.  Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lb at times.  Work environment can be loud, especially in the mornings.  Hearing protection will be provided. 

Cardinal Temp Services may have additional hiring requirements, such as drug screening, background check, etc.  The Coos County Sheriff's Office also reserves the right to screen candidates and run a background check, as necessary.

The second half will be front desk duties with the public (shelter opens to the public at 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm), adoptions, animal intake, answering questions, etc.
