Coos County Flood and Natural Hazards Web Tool
Dogami maps and tools are maintained by the Coos County Planning Department, and linked here as a convenience. The revamped DOGAMI Coos County Flood and Natural Hazards Web Tool has been released. This interactive map interface uses Flex Viewer for a faster, smoother user experience.
We hope this will serve as a valuable planning tool for implementing the new Flood Insurance Study and Flood Insurance Rate Maps -- and for understanding other natural hazards within Coos County.
These FEMA and DOGAMI maps are elements of a project to update the Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM) for Coos County. The DFIRM project is currently in the Data Development phase. The following table illustrates where we are in the project and includes major milestones with these dates:

DOGAMI and STARR are finalizing all information needed to produce and distribute the Preliminary Flood Insurance Study (FIS) and Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) to your community.
Next Steps:
Preliminary copies of the revised FIS report and FIRMs were recently presented publicly in Bandon and released to local news media. We anticipate this information will result in modification of the elevations of the flood having 1-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year (base flood) for certain locations in Coos County. Before any revised BFEs are effective for floodplain management purposes, you will have the opportunity to appeal the proposed BFEs. Letters describing the BFE modifications and appeals process will be sent to your community and published in the local newspapers.
FEMA and STARR will work with you to address any appeals or comments your community may have on the Preliminary FIS or FIRM. If warranted, FEMA will revise the FIS report and FIRM and send revised copies to your community for review. Until the appeal or protest is resolved, FEMA will not issue a Letter of Final Determination (LFD); therefore, the processing of the FIS report and FIRM for your community will be delayed. At the end of the 90-day appeal period and following the resolution of any appeals, FEMA will send you a letter of final BFE determinations (LFD). The LFD is currently scheduled to be sent to communities in December 2011.The effective date for the project is currently scheduled for July 2012 (six months following the LFD).
