Planning Commission

The Coos County Planning Commission is appointed by the Board of Commissioners to actively participate in the County’s planning program. The Commission is a seven-member body that serves as a hearings body on land use matters and reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners regarding new or amended provisions of the Comprehensive Plan and Land Use and Development Ordinance.

Planning Commission members represent various geographic areas of the County and reflect a variety of occupations, backgrounds, and interests. Members are appointed to four-year terms. The Planning Commission meets regularly on the first Thursday of each month, unless otherwise scheduled.

Within the Ordinance, the Planning Commission is identified as a Hearings Body. Hearings conducted by the Planning Commission provide an open public process that allows interested parties to observe and participate in the land use decision-making process. Decisions of the Planning Commission may be appealed to the Coos County Board of Commissioners. Legal and procedural requirements governing land use applications are established by Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Administrative Rules, and the Coos County Land Use and Development Ordinance.
