PRESS RELEASE

On May 24,  2023,  the  CooCounty  Grand  Jury returned  a secret  indictment charging Reina Gabriela Jackson, aka Reina Gabriela Matute-Ruano, with one count of Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the Second Degree. The charges pertain to the homicidal death of Dr. Craig Jackson which occurred on August 2, 2021. A nationwide warrant for Reina Jackson's arrest was issued shortly thereafter. This office had asked for the assistance of the United States Marshall Service and the US Attorney's  Office  in  locating  and arresting Reina Jackson as it was believed she was currently residing  in her home nation of Guatemala.  Reina Jackson is the ex-wife of Dr. Jackson.

This indictment was the culmination of an investigation  lasting  almost two years. The North Bend Police Department  is the lead agency and was assisted by the Oregon State Police, Coos Bay Police Department, the Coos County Sheriff's Office, Coquille Police Department, Bandon Police Department, the Myrtle Point Police Department, the Oregon State Police Forensic Laboratory System, the Coos County and State of Oregon Medical  Examiner's Offices and the Coos County District Attorney's Office.

was informed  in the eveninof June  14,  2023,  that Reina Jackson  was arrested by the  UMarshall  Service  in Atlanta,  Georgia  earlier  that  evening. Apparently,  Ms. Jackson, unaware  of the arrest  warrant,  had decided  to return to the  UniteStates for some reason and was arrested  when she entered the country on June 14,  2023.

Reina Jackson  was also arrested  on a Coos County  Circuit Court warrant  based on allegations that she had violated  the terms of her probation  on a previous  Burglary in the First-Degreconviction  where  it is alleged she violated  her probation  by absconding from supervision.  That warrant  had been outstanding since the later part of 2021.

It is  my  understanding that  Reina  Jackson  has  been  lodged  in a jaifacility  in Atlanta, Georgia.  I   anticipate she will be making a court appearance  in Atlanta in the near future to begin the extradition process  to brinher back to Coos County. Depending  on whether  Reina Jackson  decides  to contest our extradition  request,  this process  can last for several weeks or months.
