Thanks for the Welcome, Coos County Veterans!

Hello Coos County Veterans!

My name is Barye (say it like Berry) Dellinger. I am thrilled to be your new Coos County Veteran Service Officer! I started my tenure with Coos County on August 3, 2015 after serving Douglas County Veterans for over five years.

I love helping Veterans. I have worked professionally serving Veterans since 1997. I worked for many years in mental health and addiction counseling. I made a change to become a Veteran Service Officer in 2010. I find working as a VSO particularly satisfying. It is a job I love to do. I love meeting Veterans and their dependents, hearing your stories and helping you negotiate the challenging VA Benefit System. Since I am not employed by the VA, I am able to be your advocate in the VA Benefit process.

My office in Coquille at 217 North Adams is open Mondays & Tuesdays. I'll be working in Coos Bay at ORCCA 1855 North Thomas on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I will be starting an outreach program to Bandon on October 26, 2015 at the VFW Hall.  It is important to make an appointment for outreach clinics!  I hope to broaden this outreach to other more remote areas of the County as the need becomes clear. Please call for an appointment at your preferred location. You can try dropping in, but since our office is very small, we can not assure you that you could be seen that day.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, Coos County Veterans! I look forward to a long and satisfying partnership here.

My Best,

Barye Dellinger

Coos County Veteran Service Officer

Blue Water Navy Developments

In April 2015, the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC) made a decision that has great promise regarding the issue of inland vs. deep waterways in Viet Nam. Currently, VA will only concede Agent Orange exposure for Veterans who served with 'boots on the ground' or travelled in the inland waterways of Viet Nam.   In the case of Gray vs. McDonald, the Court challenged the VA definitions of inland water ways stating they were arbitrary and capricious.

Coos County Veterans affected by this issue are encouraged to watch an informative webinar, provided for free by the attorney who represented Mr. Gray in this case.   The webinar talks about suggested steps to take to support a positive outcome for this pending case which would most likely affect other Veterans in similar circumstances.
