The Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement services to the residents of Coos County and security services to the Court System.The Sheriff’s Office is mandated to serve documents (civil process) issued by District and Magistrate courts, as well as transport prisoners into and out of Coos County. The Sheriff's Office serves as Coos County's principal law enforcement agency in accordance with Oregon State Law. The primary responsibility of the agency is to provide law enforcement services to county residents.The Sheriff assigns patrols to proactively deter criminal activity, promote traffic safety and respond to calls for service and other emergencies. The Sheriff has concurrent jurisdiction with local law enforcement agencies and cooperates closely with authorities and local agencies.
The Sheriff's office is available to provide, or assist with investigative services and training to other enforcement agencies within Coos County. The Sheriff is an elected position and is authorized to appoint deputies to assist in law enforcement.
