Departments > Public Health > Ready to Smile
Funded primarily by the Oregon Community Foundation (OCF), Ready to Smile is a new program offered at public schools throughout Coos and Curry Counties. This program offers dental care and services for children in Kindergarten through 7th grade.  Ready to Smile helps match students with dental services available in their community.  Most services take place at the school.

To prevent tooth decay, children can receive:
  • dental screening and sealants (DHS Dental Sealant Program and Ready to Smile Dental Sealant Program)
  • fluoride supplements
  • education on how to care for teeth, with toothbrushes and other supplies provided
To treat dental pain and infection, children can receive:
  • care on a mobile dental van at school (The Tooth Taxi and Medical Teams International)
  • care at a local volunteer dentist's office
  • limited prescriptions and transportation

Help is also available to apply for low, or no-cost health insurance for children.
