The Criminal Division handles all of the criminal cases referred to this office. In addition, the Criminal Divison handles other cases such as juvenile dependency matters, forfeitures and involuntary mental commitment hearings.

Currently six attorneys are assigned to the Criminal Division. Those attorneys are:              
Mark Monson:

Mark joined the office in August 2013 as the Chief Deputy District Attorney.  Mark earned a bachelor of arts degree from Utah State University, and Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore with concentration in criminal law and trial advocacy.  Mark began his career as a prosecutor in the State’s Attorney’s Office for Baltimore City where he focused on major narcotics cases and wiretap investigations.  Mark handles measure 11 felonies.  To contact Mark, please call 541 396 7500 or email him direct at mmonson@co.coos.or.us      


Karen McClintock: Karen began working in Coos County in 1995 as a Deputy District Attorney. She graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She obtained her Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from Willamette University College of Law in 1995.

Ryan Hughes: Ryan started in Coos County in 2009 as a Deputy District Attorney. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2000 from Loras College. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Drake University in 2008.

Stephen Pettey: Steve started in Coos County in 2010. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from Willamette University College of law in 2009.

Sarah Lundstedt:

Sarah started in Coos County in 2011. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lewis and Clark College. She obtained her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 2009 from the University of Oregon.

 Kara Brooks Kara started in Coos County in October, 2013. She graduated from Barnard College with a Bachelor’s Degree in 2008, and got her law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School.
