Coos County’s Tobacco Prevention and Education Program (TPEP) is working with community partners to reduce tobacco use in Coos County. Tobacco use is killing people in our county at a higher rate than elsewhere in the state. Tobacco use causes cancer and heart disease, and contributes to a wide range of other chronic disease. Best practices research indicates that one of the most effective ways to reduce tobacco use is to create smoke free environments. With help from community partners, and funding from the state, TPEP is working to promote policy changes that will reduce tobacco use where we live, work, play and learn, and create environments where the healthy choice is the easy choice.
The TPEP program is not directly involved in tobacco cessation services, but works to help promote locally available cessation resources.
