The Coos County Behavioral Health Department is committed to protecting the privacy of its clients. The Department has adopted a Privacy Program consisting of a detailed and specific set of policies and procedures for the purpose of protecting and enhancing clients' rights of access to their health information and preventing inappropriate use of that information.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, also known as HIPAA, was enacted as part of a broad Congressional attempt at incremental healthcare reform and resulted in the development of standards and requirements for maintenance and transmission of health information that identifies individual patients. The Privacy Program of the Coos County Behavioral Health Department complies with HIPAA requirements, Oregon laws, and other federal laws governing client privacy.

Questions relating to Privacy Program of the Department can be directed to the Privacy Officer at (541) 751-2500.
