Guided by Oregon state law and administrative rules, we promise fairness, consistency, and equity in appraisals and assessment of Coos County Properties.

We're dedicated to the continual development and utilization of technology along with the use of proper appraisal methods, recalculation, and standards set by Statute; to maintain the basic foundation of property information for the taxpayer and public; to ensure basic understanding of the assessment process, while maximizing the efficient use of staff and resources.

Steve Jansen


Steve Jansen was appointed Assessor on February 1, 2011; subsequently elected as Assessor in 2013.

He is a 1966 Marshfield High School graduate and is a retired American Airlines Captain. He is also a retired U.S. Air Force C-130 pilot. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Oregon State University in 1970, and Master’s Degrees in General Systems Management and Management of Research and Development from the University of Southern California in 1984.


Denise Harris
Chief Deputy Assessor


Denise Harris is a lifelong Coquille resident. She began working for Coos County in 2005 as a Tax/Accounting Specialist in the Tax Office. She was promoted to the Chief Deputy Assessor position in January 2009.

Prior to joining the County, Denise worked for Security Bank/Umpqua Bank for 25 years as a Computer Operator and Mortgage Banker. She also worked for a mortgage funding company and a local title company.
